First you say “I do,” then you get to eat, drink, and be married! One thing all wedding guests look forward to after the ceremony is the timeless tradition of cutting the cake. It’s easy to get caught up in planning all the other details of your Big Day, but don’t forget to think about your cake, and your cake table! Whether it’s a simple sheet cake or an extravagant, 6-tier, you can never go wrong with a classic wedding cake.
If you choose to have a cake at your wedding, there are a few things you will need to gather!
Cake Stand
Cake stands are a great way to show off your wedding style. Rental companies offer a variety of cake stands to fit your style, or you can purchase your own and use it at home. Be sure to get in touch and ask the baker what size you’ll need! When choosing a stand, you always want to make sure it is at least the same size as the bottom tier.
Cake Cutting Set
When gathering your day-of items, be sure to pack a cake cutting knife and cake server! A personalized cake cutting set with your name & wedding date engraved is the perfect keepsake. Don’t want to purchase your own? Talk to your baker or venue to see if they are able to provide one for you. You won’t want to rush around at the last minute trying to track down utensils!
Cake Topper
We’ve seen various different types of cake toppers lately. The most popular are the custom name toppers! Need some inspiration? Search on Etsy to see what local makers have to offer. You may discover new ideas you’ve never seen before (we’re loving the trend of adding your pets in your wedding in as many ways as possible…including the cake topper)!
Floral Accents
Not to be biased, but floral accents are our favorite way to decorate wedding cakes. They are the perfect way to tie in your wedding colors and add dimension and texture!
Champagne Flutes
No celebration would be complete without a glass of bubbly! Champagne glasses are a must if you want to take a fun photo during cake cutting! Have your caterers place a couple of glasses on your cake table so that you and your spouse can toast one another after you cut the cake.
Backdrop
You put a lot of work into selecting the perfect cake and accompaniments, don’t neglect the backdrop! Think about where you place your cake table and what kind of a backdrop will frame your cake in your photos. Is your cake unique on different sides? Don’t forget to ask your photographer to get multiple angles!
